Alternatives for Community and Environment (ACE)-Roxbury, MA
Founded in 1993, ACE builds the power of communities of color and lower income communities in New England to eradicate environmental racism and classism and achieve environmental justice. ACE provides legal and technical support, educational programs and organizing assistance to community groups throughout New England to
solve environmental problems and develop local environmental leadership. ACE is anchoring a movement of people who have been excluded from decision-making to confront power directly and demand fundamental changes in the rules of the game, so together they can achieve their right to a healthy environment.
As a Communities Creating Healthy Environments grantee, ACE will leverage its membership base of nearly 1,000 low-income residents to develop comprehensive economic development and land use policy for the Roxbury area that increases resident buying power, green space, walkability, healthy food outlets and resident access to the growing “green jobs” market as a way to address some of the root causes of food affordability.
