La Unión del Pueblo Entero (LUPE)-San Juan, TX
Founded in 1989 by labor rights activist César Chávez, La Unión del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) is committed to building stronger, healthier communities where colonia residents use their power to effect social change through community organizing and social services.
As a Communities Creating Healthy Environments grantee, LUPE will leverage its base of more than 5,000 families in Hidalgo County colonias to address serious, institutionalized inequities in recreation funding and access. LUPE will conduct an extensive scan of public and private resourcing of youth recreation opportunities, create model county policy on equitable park and recreation funding, expand Spanish language advocacy materials and resident trainings on these issues.
